We Run For A Reason
For Nels Matson, ultra-endurance athlete and Tri 4 Number 1 (T4N1) Foundation Director, that reason is fallen Navy SEAL Chris Campbell. When Nels first learned about Chris, it was Chris’s big heart and positive perspective on life that resonated with him most. The more Nels learned about Chris’s story and his last wish to support the Wounded Warrior Project®, the more Nels wanted to make a difference. It’s why Nels is gearing up for his biggest challenge to date: a record-breaking attempt for fastest run across the country – all to help honor Chris’s legacy.

ABOUT PROJECT CAMPBELL'S CALL

Project Campbell’s Call
Chris Campbell was known for his infectious smile and personality. As a U.S. Navy SEAL, Chris completed numerous deployments worldwide in support of the Global War on Terrorism. In 2011, Chris, along with 31 other military soldiers, 7 Afghan allies, and one service dog, were killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Nels was inspired by Chris’s story and his last wish, which stated that if anything happened to him, he hoped for 100,000 people to make a difference by donating to the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP), a charity and veterans service organization, to help those who made it home.
Now, with Chris’s mission fulfilled, T4N1 wishes to run in the Navy SEAL’s honor. Through an event called Project Campbell’s Call, Nels will support the WWP® by attempting to break the world record for the fastest known time for a transcontinental run across the United States. That means, Nels will run 3,067 miles from California to New York in less than 42 days, six hours, and 30 minutes — all to ensure Chris’s legacy of gaining 100,000 donors for WWP® is never forgotten.
We Need Your Support -
Every Step of the Way
After cycling across the country – twice – and completing a multistate run to benefit national and international nonprofits, Nels is no stranger to supporting special causes through sport. Still, running from California to New York is no easy feat. To break the record and support Project Campbell’s Call, Nels will have to run about three marathons a day, for six weeks straight. And he can’t do it without you.
