A Brother’s Words; A Sister’s Thoughts

I am Chris’ sister. He was born one month and one week before I turned five – an early birthday present that year! Many years ago, I found a letter my mom had written to her dad after Chris was born. Apparently, I wanted a baby sister. After Chris arrived, I fell in love with my baby brother. My mom has so many pictures where I was holding him when he was a baby. As I looked back at my pictures after Chris was killed, I could see that the roles reversed. He would drape his arm lovingly around my shoulder. The sibling relationship is often dismissed as unimportant. Our brothers and sisters are our first friends, playmates, “enemies” and then, if we are lucky, life comes full circle and you settle back into a comfortable friendship. While my current path would not be one I would choose, I cannot change it and am at a place (most days) where I can realize how blessed I am to have many wonderful memories with Chris.
If you died today, for what good deeds will you be remembered?

I Did. Now What?
